TIMBER CARE & NATURAL MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS

Nordic Wellness saunas and ice baths are constructed using premium natural timber materials selected for durability, stability, and aesthetic character.

A sauna is a natural timber structure exposed to heat, humidity, and environmental conditions. As a result, minor movement, surface checking, and variation in timber components is normal and expected over the life of the product and does not constitute a manufacturing defect.

Timber movement including expansion, contraction, minor cracking, and surface checking is a normal characteristic of natural wood products exposed to heat and changing humidity levels and is not considered a manufacturing defect. Natural variation in timber colour, grain pattern, and surface appearance is an inherent characteristic of natural timber and does not constitute a defect in materials or workmanship and is not covered under this warranty.

Timber is a natural organic material that continues to respond to environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and seasonal weather changes. As a result, minor variations may occur over time and are considered normal characteristics of natural timber products. These natural characteristics may include: small dents or surface marks, fine surface cracks or checking, natural grain variation, resin or sap marks, minor expansion or contraction of timber components

These conditions are normal properties of natural timber and do not affect the structural integrity or performance of the sauna or ice bath. They are not considered manufacturing defects. During regular use, timber may develop minor cracks or surface changes as it responds to natural moisture variations. These changes are expected and do not affect the durability or safe operation of the product.

COSMETIC MARKS DURING SHIPPING

All Nordic Wellness products are inspected prior to leaving the workshop to ensure consistency, colour quality, and workmanship standards. Due to the nature of international freight and transport, minor cosmetic scuffs or marks may occasionally occur during shipping. Cosmetic imperfections that do not affect product function may be treated using a light application of cedar/timber filler, timber oil or furniture polish, or may be lightly sanded if desired. Products containing benzene-based or high alcohol cleaning products should be avoided as these may damage timber finishes. Cosmetic concerns must be reported within the Cosmetic Defects reporting window specified in this warranty.

TIMBER MAINTENANCE

Routine timber care is the responsibility of the product owner and forms part of normal product maintenance. Proper maintenance helps preserve the appearance and longevity of the timber components, particularly for outdoor installations exposed to sunlight, moisture, and environmental conditions.

Recommended maintenance includes:

  • Quarterly Inspection: Every three months, inspect the sauna timber for signs of drying, surface wear, or environmental exposure. Apply a suitable timber oil or protective coating where required.

  • Bi-Annual Protection: For outdoor installations, Nordic Wellness recommends applying a suitable exterior timber oil, estapol or protective coating at least twice per year to help protect the timber from UV exposure and moisture.

OPTIONAL EXTERIOR PROTECTION

Owners may choose to apply additional exterior protection to further protect the sauna from environmental exposure. This may include sanding, sealing, and painting the exterior surfaces using suitable exterior timber products. Recommended steps include:

Light sanding of exterior timber surfaces

Application of a suitable timber sealer undercoat

Application of exterior-grade timber paint or coating

Exterior coatings can provide additional protection from UV exposure, moisture, and temperature changes and may extend the aesthetic life of the product.

WARRANTY ACTIONS FOR PAINTED OR COATED SAUNAS

Applying exterior coatings is optional and may enhance weather protection. However, improper application of paints, sealants, or coatings may result in conditions not covered under warranty. Examples include: peeling or flaking coatings, trapped moisture within timber surfaces,

water penetration caused by incorrect sealing methods or

timber damage caused by incompatible coating products.

Where such issues occur as a result of incorrect application or unsuitable products, they may affect warranty coverage. Owners undertaking exterior finishing or coating should ensure suitable timber products and application techniques are used.

ROUTINE OWNER RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintaining the sauna is part of normal ownership responsibilities. Routine maintenance includes:

  • inspection and maintenance of silicon seals for outdoor models

  • minor door hinge adjustments resulting from heat and natural timber movement

  • periodic timber oiling or surface protection

These maintenance activities are considered normal care and are not covered under warranty.

DOOR ALIGNMENT & NATURAL TIMBER MOVEMENT

Minor door alignment adjustments may be required over time as the sauna structure responds to natural timber movement, temperature variation, and environmental conditions. Small adjustments to door hinges or magnetic catches are considered normal routine maintenance and do not constitute a manufacturing defect. Where door misalignment results from base movement, site settlement, or installation on an uneven surface, such adjustments are the responsibility of the owner and are not covered under warranty.
